🧰 Before you start
- An online shop on Shopify or Etsy (easiest routes)
- Clear product photos, titles, prices and store policies (shipping, returns)
🪜 Step by step
- 1☐
Use a supported shop platform
Shopify and Etsy shops are the easiest route into ChatGPT shopping.
- 2☐
On Shopify: check you're eligible
Shopify says eligible stores are included automatically: you must ship to customers in the United States (your shop can be based elsewhere) and your products must qualify for Shopify Catalog. Check Sales channels > Agentic in Shopify admin to see ChatGPT is not switched off.
- 3☐
Fill in your store policies
In Settings > Policies, complete your Terms of service, Privacy policy and Return and refund policy. Shopify requires these.
- 4☐
Improve your product listings
Use the prompt below to rewrite titles and descriptions so AI understands exactly what each product is and who it's for.
- 5☐
Test it
Ask ChatGPT to find a product like yours, e.g. 'best [product] under [price] delivered to Malaysia'.
- 6☐
Other platforms
If you're not on Shopify or Etsy, check OpenAI's merchant page (link below) for how to apply.
💬 Copy-paste prompts
Tap Copy prompt, paste it into your AI (Grok, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini), then replace the [yellow bits] with your own details.
Rewrite this product listing so an AI shopping assistant can understand and recommend it.
Product: [paste title, description, price, sizes, materials].
Give me: a clear title (under 70 characters), a 3-sentence description, 6 bullet features, who it's best for, and 10 phrases a shopper might type when looking for it. No exaggerated claims.⚠️ Tips & common mistakes
- For Shopify stores, ChatGPT sends buyers to your own checkout (shown inside ChatGPT), and Shopify says there's no extra fee.
- Right now Shopify's route needs you to sell to US customers; check OpenAI's merchant page for other options.
- Accurate stock and prices matter: AI shoppers notice mistakes.
