🧠Personal Productivity · Step-by-step guide

Ask your dot to keep looking for ways to make your work easier, and check in every few hours

A tip from a member of the team building ChatGPT dots (OpenAI's always-on agents with their own cloud computer): instead of waiting for instructions, ask your dot to keep looking through your connected apps for things that would improve your work or life, and check in with you every few hours with suggestions.

  1. 1
    ☐

    Create your dot

Open ChatGPT and choose dots. You can now do this in the phone app too. Give it a name and pick how it looks.

  2. 2
    ☐

    Connect a few apps

Connect plugins (links to your other apps) such as calendar and email. Only connect what you're happy for it to read.

  3. 3
    ☐

    Set the ground rules

Tell it what it may do on its own and what needs your OK. Dots have Custom Rules to allow, require approval for, or block actions.

  4. 4
    ☐

    Give it the check-in prompt

Paste the prompt below. Ask it to confirm the schedule and your time zone (Malaysia, UTC+8) back to you.

  5. 5
    ☐

    Reply to its suggestions

When it checks in, answer 'yes, do it', 'not now' or 'never suggest this again'. It learns what you like.

  6. 6
    ☐

Optional: tune it after a week

Tell it which suggestions helped most and ask it to focus there. If it's too chatty, change 'every 3 hours' to 'once a day'.

💬 Improvement check-ins
Please keep looking through my connected apps and our past conversations for things that would make my work or life easier: repeated tasks, missed follow-ups, messy files, meetings that could be emails, bills or renewals coming up.
Check in with me every [3] hours between [9 a.m.] and [6 p.m.] Malaysia time on weekdays, with at most [2] suggestions each time. For each: what you noticed, what you'd do, and how much time it would save.
Don't send, buy, book, delete or contact anyone without my OK. If you have nothing useful, stay quiet. Please confirm this schedule back to me.

⚠️ Tips & common mistakes

🌟 Why it's worth it

💡 Why it mattersMost people don't know what to hand over to an AI; this lets the dot spot the time-wasters for you, so you only have to say yes or no.
