Fill in long visa application forms while the AI asks you the questions

A Reddit user says the 'life-changing' use for their ChatGPT dot (OpenAI's always-on agent with its own cloud computer) was filling in US immigration and UK or Schengen visa forms 'with a million pages'. They let the dot fill the online form while they were on a voice call with it, and asked it to question them about anything it wasn't sure of.

⏱️ 20 minutes to prepare, then about as long as a phone conversation🎯 Easy💵 ChatGPT Pro from about USD 100/month; your first dot is included. Visa fees are separate and you pay them yourself.📋 8 steps

  1. 1
    ☐

Gather your details in one place

Make a note with travel dates, addresses for the last few years, employer details, previous visas and trips. Keep the passport itself next to you rather than typing every number in advance.

  2. 2
    ☐

    Open only the official form

Find the form through the government's own website (for example GOV.UK for the UK). Lookalike sites charge extra fees; never let the dot search for 'visa form' on its own.

  3. 3
    ☐

    Set the ground rules

Tell your dot to ask before submitting, paying, signing any declaration or creating an account. Paste the 'Visa form helper' prompt below with the official link.

  4. 4
    ☐

    Start a voice call

Call your dot from the ChatGPT app. It fills in the form on its own computer and asks you whenever it's unsure, which the poster found the most useful part.

  5. 5
    ☐

Answer one question at a time

If you don't know an answer, say so. Ask it to leave the field empty and add it to a 'to check' list rather than guess.

  6. 6
    ☐

Get a read-back of every answer

Use the 'Read-back check' prompt. Compare each answer with your passport and documents, especially names, dates and passport numbers.

  7. 7
    ☐

    Submit and pay yourself

Log in, read the declaration, pay and submit with your own hands. The answers are your legal responsibility, not the AI's.

  8. 8
    ☐

    Optional: tidy up afterwards

Ask the dot to delete any copies of your documents it saved, and check ChatGPT's data controls in Settings.

Tap Copy prompt, paste it into your AI (Grok, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini), then replace the [yellow bits] with your own details.

💬 Visa form helper
Please help me fill in the [UK visitor visa / Schengen visa for (country) / US form name] application at this official link: [official government URL]. Use only this site.
I'll be on a voice call with you. Go through the form page by page. For every field you can't fill from my notes below, ask me one clear question. If I'm unsure, leave it blank and add it to a 'to check' list. Never guess dates, numbers or names.
Don't create accounts, sign declarations, pay or submit. Stop at the final review page and tell me.
My notes: [travel dates], [purpose of trip], [address history], [employer and job title], [previous visas and refusals], [who I'm travelling with].
💬 Read-back check
Before I submit, read back every answer you entered, page by page, as a numbered list: the question as written on the form and my answer. Highlight anything you weren't sure about, anything left blank, and any answer that doesn't match my notes. Then show the 'to check' list.

⚠️ Tips & common mistakes

🌟 Why it's worth it

💡 Why it mattersVisa forms are long, repetitive and costly to get wrong. Letting the AI do the typing while you answer its questions turns hours of form-filling into a conversation. You still check every answer and submit it yourself.
🏷️ Real exampleu/kerbinagent on r/OpenAI: 'You can ask it to fill the form AND call it at the same time, just ask it to ask you questions for clarification (the latter part is very useful).'
